Artists' impression released of Metrolink at Sale Water Park

A sneak preview of what Metrolink trams could look like as they travel past Sale Water Park on a new line provided by the Transport Innovation Fund (TIF) package has been made available.

The picture of Metrolink travelling along the new route shows a tram on Rifle Road. The water park - a destination for walking, water sports and fishing - isn't currently served by public transport without a lengthy walk.

The stop at Sale Water Park, which also includes 300 park and ride spaces, is on a new line which will serve Wythenshawe and terminate at Manchester Airport.

The line to the airport is part of wider Metrolink improvements which will connect the water park and Wythenshawe with Oldham, Rochdale and Ashton town centres as well as the Trafford Centre and East Didsbury.

Extending the Metrolink network is one element of the TIF package which also includes improved bus services which start earlier and finish later and more seats peak time trains. The package also includes new transport interchanges, investment in the cycle path network, and the introduction of a travel smartcard to make buying a ticket for more than one service easier.

Further details and updates about the public consultation can be found at www.gmfuturetransport.com or by calling 0800 234 6100.
