Bolton is served by routes from Southport via Wigan, Blackburn and Preston. Currently 54 carriages operate through Bolton to Manchester at peak times. The Department for Transport is committed to providing additional capacity on trains, adding extra carriages for peak services.
An additional platform will be built at Lostock to enable these longer trains to stop.
A new transport gateway
The Bolton Interchange project will deliver a high quality facility to bring together public transport types in one integrated location. The re-siting of the bus station closer to Bolton train station will provide better links between bus and train routes, making it easier to move from one to the other.
Hall i' th' Wood, Bromley Cross, Blackrod, Westhoughton, and Daisy Hill and Lostock stations will also enjoy major improvements, including new platforms on the Wigan line at Lostock station and improved frequency of services.
Real-time updates
The majority of railway stations will display real-time information, to tell passengers exactly when their next train is due. This information can also be available by text and online.
