Rochdale: Metrolink

Extending the service into the centre of Rochdale
A new 1.1 km Metrolink extension will enable trams to run into the heart of Rochdale town centre.

Metrolink stops will be provided at Drake Street, with a terminus at the new Rochdale Interchange. The new Metrolink network will connect the centre of Rochdale to many places in Greater Manchester that are currently difficult to access by public transport. For example, people will be able to travel easily by tram from Rochdale town centre to Oldham town centre, to Manchester Airport, to Salford Quays and to Old Trafford.

These extensions are in addition to the recently announced project, which is underway, to convert the existing railway from Manchester Victoria to Rochdale Railway Station into a Metrolink extension (including the 5.2 km in Rochdale).

Frequency of the service
Weekday daytime tram services will run every 12 minutes between Rochdale town centre and Manchester via Oldham town centre. At peak times the new service will carry up to 1,200 passengers an hour.
