Trafford: Metrolink

Extending the service to more people and places
Extensive additions to Metrolink are planned for Trafford.

There will be new Metrolink extensions via Firswood and Sale Moor to Manchester Airport and funds have been earmarked for an extension to Trafford Park and the Trafford Centre.

Longer trams
We are already committed to doubling the length of all trams running on the Altrincham line at peak times by 2010. Under the TIF package, Altrincham to Bury trams that call at Piccadilly will also double their capacity by 2012, creating space for around 200 more people per trip.

Altrincham Interchange will be redeveloped to make it easier to transfer between bus, train and tram services and with better facilities for all passengers, including joint waiting areas and information systems.

The Metrolink platforms will be able to accommodate longer trams and access to all stations will be improved. This will include improvements to the existing footbridge at Altrincham, to make it easily accessible for people with wheelchairs or prams.
