Creating a 21st Century transport system

This website sets out how the Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority (GMPTA) would invest in public transport, cycling and walking, and the use of our road network, along with detailed information on the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities (AGMA) congestion charging proposals for drivers. The Department for Transport has approved proposals made under the Transport Innovation Fund for investment in public transport, funded by a combination of Government Grant and income from a weekday peak-time congestion charge.

The Association of Greater Manchester Authorities (AGMA) is conducting a local poll ("referendum") on the Transport Innovation Fund (TIF) proposals, by way of a postal ballot which closes on the 11th December. For further information please refer to the Returning Officer's Website at www.tifreferendumreturningofficer.com
or call his helpline on 0800 783 9828.

There are a number of campaign groups both for and against the TIF proposals. Details of the main umbrella campaign groups are to be found on the following web sites:

The No Campaign:. www.stopthecharge.co.uk
The Yes Campaign:. www.wevoteyes.co.uk
